Car Q&A

  • When do I need to have my car's tires rotated?
Tires should be rotated every 10,000 km.
  • What kind of information does the technician need to diagnose my car?
When you bring your car in, try to explain your problem(s) as fully as you can. For example, if your car is making a noise, pay attention to when you hear the noise. Is it all the time, only when you turn your wheel or use your brakes? Some problems only occur when the engine is either hot or cold, or at certain speeds. Being able to fill in as much information as possible for the technician will save the technician time and you money (and that's always a good thing).
  • How often should my car's oil be changed?
Oil should be changed every 4,000 km or every 4 months.
  • When should I have my car winterized or summerized?
Preparing your car for winter should be done in the fall. In Calgary's climate, you just never know when winter's going to come! Before you go on any long drives for your summer vacation, you should make sure that your car is ready for the long miles and (hopefully) hot weather.
  • My car isn't running well and I'm thinking about trading it in - what do you recommend I do?
Let us inspect your car before you make such an expensive decision. Sometimes it is cheaper to have a mechanical overhaul done. You may get many more years of service from your car.
  • How often should my car have a tune-up?
We recommend that, due to our Alberta climate, your car receive a tune-up every 50,000 - 60,000 km. If your car has platinum spark plugs, only the plugs will last 100,000 km. Transmission and engine fluids should be flushed every 50,000 km.
  • How can I be sure the car I'm thinking of buying is good?
We offer a pre-inspection service. Let us do a thorough inspection of the car before you buy it. We can save you hundreds, and sometimes, even thousands of dollars in repairs. The stories we could tell you! We are always happy to offer you our expert advice when you are thinking of buying a new or used car.
